A 9-year plan is now a reality as South Gate Centre breaks ground on their expansion.
WOODSTOCK - It was a big day for the South Gate Centre.
Yesterday afternoon, shovels were in the ground marking the groundbreaking ceremony for the long-awaited expansion. Chair of the Finance Expansion Team, David Hilderley says work will start next Wednesday, and it could be a year for the project to be completed.
"We are anticipating a finish date of July 2025. So, we are hoping it isn't a horrible winter, but we will keep going."
Hilderley mentions it has been a 9-year process to get this expansion to this point, and so far $1.3 million has been raised, and the Centre is still looking to raise $400,000. He adds when construction starts programs will still go ahead.
"Unfortunately we cannot use a part of the building, but we definitely have plans in place starting in September for getting different facilities to run our programs."
Hilderley mentions that once the expansion is complete, the facility will be able to expand the programs run for the 50+ community. It will also be used for many events, like weddings, conventions, trade shows, or anything the community would want to use.
