Dog owners in South-West Oxford will no longer have to worry about buying dog tags from the Township starting next year.
SOUTH-WEST OXFORD - South-West Oxford is ending the dog tag program starting in the new year.
Clerk Julie Forth explains why council made this decision.
"We did a service review internally to see what is involved in administering the program and there is a lot of staff time and expense in managing the program every year."
Forth says the Township will continue to provide animal control services.
"We just felt that once we did the analysis that it was best to eliminate the program and just change our by-law so that we know the dogs are identified and can be returned home if they are lost.
Forth says dog owners are expected to provide their own tags or have their pet microchipped.
"The by-law does still require that you identify the dog and their is a tag on the dog when it is not on the property or that the dog is microchipped."
