For the second time this year, the Southwestern Public Health Unit has issued a cold weather alert.
OXFORD COUNTY - Southwestern Public Health has issued a cold weather alert for the region, which includes Oxford County.
A frigid arctic air mass and strong winds will result in wind chill values of minus 30 to minus 35 tonight through to Friday morning. The Cold Arctic air will settle over Southern Ontario tonight with overnight low temperatures between minus 20 and minus 25 degrees, combined with strong wind gusts and wind chill values of minus 30 to minus 35.
We will likely get a break from the freezing cold on Friday as milder air moves into the region.
During a cold weather alert, residents should take precautions to protect themselves from the cold to avoid complications such as frostbite and hypothermia. Those most vulnerable to the effects of the cold include older adults, infants and young children, outdoor workers, those who participate in outdoor sports such as skiing and hiking, and homeless persons and others who do not have shelter, proper clothing or food.
Inn Out of the Cold offers shelter to homeless adults during the winter months between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. at Old St. Paul's Anglican Church, 723 Dundas Street, Woodstock. People arriving after 11:00 p.m. must be accompanied by police.
