A free speaker series examines entrepreneurship and how young entrepreneurs contribute to sustainable economic development.
WOODSTOCK - People in Oxford County are invited to take a closer look at entrepreneurship through a special speakers' series.
This comes along with a report examining what it's like to start up or grow a business here in Oxford. Program Coordinator at Oxford Small Business Support Centre, Lindsay Wilson says first up is Oxford native and CEO Brock Dickinson.
"So I think it's really exciting to get his perspective on why this is important in a rural community. And he's a consultant with MDB Insights so extremely professional and extremely seasoned at what he does so I think it will be interesting and hopefully exciting."
The event will be taking place at the Woodstock Art Gallery on Thursday April 21st and will feature other speakers as well including Project Coordinator for LURA Consulting Rueben Deboer, and CEO/ COO for Sojo AJ Tibano and Ellen Martin. They are aiming for young entrepreneurs, but the series could be beneficial for many different people.
"We're always trying to support young entrepreneurs. So I hope this event shows them that there's a huge rally of support behind them and we're genuinely trying to improve what it's like to start or grow a business in Oxford County."
Wilson explains what they hope people will get out of the speaker series.
"Really give them a context to why this matters not just for young entrepreneurs but to our community as a whole for things like sustainable growth, or economic development, or even just making this a great place to live, making sure there's opportunity available maybe where traditional employment doesn't exist."
They will also be releasing the findings from their consultant's report on what it is like to be an entrepreneur in Oxford County and what areas we need to improve on for entrepreneurs.
This is a free event at the Woodstock Art Gallery from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Thursday April 21st. To register click HERE
