"Given the carnage at this scene, I can scarcely believe that this wasn't a double fatality collision."
SEBRINGVILLE - Tragedy was averted in Perth County after a crash involving a large mobile crane and an oncoming tractor trailer.
Police were called to the collision at the intersection of Perth Line 29 and Perth Road 113 last night just before 8:00 p.m. OPP credit the quick reaction and attention of the transport truck driver in preventing the collision from being substantially worse. The driver of the crane was not hurt and the driver of the transport was sent to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Both vehicles were complete write offs and the intersection was closed for several hours as specialized equipment was needed to clear the scene. Driver inattention is suspected and charges are pending following the outcome of the investigation.
Provincial Constable Paul Payette says intersection related collisions can be catastrophic and investigators in this incident are amazed that both drivers survived.
"Given the carnage at this scene, I can scarcely believe that this wasn't a double fatality collision."
Preventable motor vehicle collisions require the efforts of numerous emergency crews. Extreme temperatures, snow and ice covered road ways and areas of debris create hazardous and dangerous working conditions for those who are called to respond.
