Premier Ford says they will not be lifting any restrictions, including outdoor activities until June 2nd at the earliest.
ONTARIO - Premier Doug Ford announced today they will be extending the stay-at-home order to June 2nd.
Ford says he is hoping to reopen outdoor recreation on June 2nd with more announcements to follow. Ford says he understands everyone is eager to get back to normal.
"“While we are seeing positive trends as a result of the public health measures put in place, we cannot afford to let up yet. We must stay vigilant to ensure our ICU numbers stay down and our hospital capacity is protected. If we stay the course for the next two weeks, and continue vaccinating record number of Ontarians every day, we can begin looking forward to July and August and having the summer that everyone deserves.”
He adds his goal is to have July and August be as normal as possible and in order to achieve this, we need to extend the stay at home order.
Ford says the school situation is a tricky situation and for the time being the Province will continue with virtual learning.
"On the one hand, we have some doctors, saying they want to open the schools, on the other hand, we have teacher unions saying we can't do that right now. We need public health doctors, teachers and labour partners to agree on the best path forward and we also need consensus and we simply don't have that right now. So for the time being, we will need to continue with virtual learning."
Starting on May 31st in Ontario, youth between the ages of 12 and 17 will be able to get vaccinated in Ontario.
