Stay Away From the Ice

The Woodstock Fire Department is reminding everyone to stay away from the ice now that we're starting to experience milder temperatures.

WOODSTOCK - No ice is safe ice.

That is the message that the Woodstock Fire Department would like to get across, now that we're starting to experience milder temperatures.

Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods says we have temperatures above zero in the forecast for the next few weeks.

"The water that had frozen in the last 10 days is starting to melt and not a safe thing to do is to be venturing out on the ice for any reason. Make sure your pets are off it and you definitely should not be out there skating or trying to get from one side of the waterway to the other."

Woods says the fire department has started its ice rescue training.

"We tend to practice that regardless of the temperatures just because we want to be prepared. We have had to do some ice water rescues in the past, but we would like to remind residents that just because we're trained to do it, doesn't mean we want to."

The Woodstock Fire Department has not responded to any ice related incidents so far this year.
