As some kids enjoy the last week of school in Oxford, the United Way is kicking off Supplies4Students
Many Oxford County kids are already making summer plans during their last week of class, but the United Way is one step ahead - they're already working on next September with the Supplies4Student campaign!
Local organizations have teamed up this year to ask our community to provide monetary donations instead of donating backpacks and the standard school supplies. This way the students can purchase their own equipment to get them ready for the school year. Resource Development Coordinator Jennifer Belleth tells Heart FM it really does make a difference for a child to enter the school year fully prepared.
"I think when we can give every student an equal opportunity to have choice in what those colours are for the primary students and take some pride and ownership in the items they choose, I think it starts their year out great. When I think of the more senior students, there are those students who need a specific compass set, or the scientific calculator and that is not often what came in from our traditional donations. So now they can get the compass they need or the calculator they need to get them through the science and math classes that they enjoy."
You can get involved by calling 2-1-1 to get on the list or receive a code via email. Local organizations across Oxford County are working together and have partnered with Staples Woodstock and Tillsonburg. Financial donations provided by individuals and workplaces throughout Oxford will be turned into shopping vouchers for families needing support.
You can also make donations online here.
