Stratford Police Arrest Man After Evading

Man arrested at gunpoint after evading Stratford Police.

STRATFORD - Man was arrested at gun point after evading police.

Monday, March 7, 2022 Stratford Police performed what they thought was a normal traffic stop, however little did they know the driver had a warrant issued for his arrest.

The initial traffic stop took place on Queen Street in St. Mary's on a Dodge Dart which matched with a 53 year old man that had a warrant for his arrest. The outstanding warrant was issued after the man failed to appear in court back in November. The man was facing charges of uttering threats, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose.

On March, 7th, the officer performing the traffic stop approached the vehicle to make contact with the suspect and the driver drove right at the officer. Thankfully, the officer dodged the car and the vehicle fled the scene after colliding with the police cruiser.

The suspect headed eastbound on Queen Street East through downtown St. Mary's. The initial officer along with another officer pin-pointed the escapee at the intersection of Queen Street East and Chruch Street South.

Officers then held the suspect at gun point for arrest and removed him from the vehicle. The man was taken into custody and moved to Stratford Police Headquarters where he was charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, resisting arrest and assault with a weapon.
