Summer StreetFest will be taking place this weekend, but some of the events have been cancelled due to the air quality.
WOODSTOCK - Summer StreetFest is still a go, even with the smoky conditions.
However, Duane Kumala-Thomas, the Operations Manager for the Downtown Woodstock BIA, does have some sad news to share regarding the 3v3 basketball tournament.
"We are having to cancel/postpone just for everyone's health, especially the youth. As youth organization with Why Not Us, our care is for the youth so it would not be right to ask them to exert themselves in this type of weather."
Kumala-Thomas says 19 teams registered for the tournament, so they are hoping to bring it back some other time.
The BIA has also cancelled a lot of the kids activities that were scheduled for StreetFest, but they are still moving forward with the rock climbing wall, the zip line, and the dunk tanks.
Kumala-Thomas says they will still have live music in the downtown core, but only if the musicians feel comfortable
"We have the three stages and musicians lined up all night long. Obviously it is up to them because they will be singing and playing their instruments, which is a lot of breathing at the same time. We are leaving it up to the artists to decide whether they want to perform, the same way we're leaving it up to participants to decide if they want to come out."
He adds the downtown businesses will still be open and some of them will have special grab-and-go food offerings for the weekend.
"Downtown has so many great food places, so we wanted to give them an opportunity to present what a food truck would be. It will be their version of a quick sample of what the restaurant or eatery has to offer that you can eat while you're walking."
StreetFest is taking place today and tomorrow and the StreetFest Cruise is also scheduled for Sunday. Any updates regarding the weekend will be posted to the Downtown Woodstock BIA Facebook page.
Duane Kumala-Thomas stopped by the Heart FM Studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Friday, July 17th. You can listen to the full interview below:
