The work on Dundas Street between Wellington Street and Riddell Street should last 13 weeks.
WOODSTOCK - It's day one of the Downtown Streetscape project in Woodstock.
Shovels will hit the ground on Dundas Street between Wellington Street and Riddell Street today.
Duane Kumala-Thomas, the Operations Manager for the BIA, says new sidewalks with rolled curbs will be installed, along with some new street furniture.
"The sidewalks are going to be changed to a more accessible layout, which is fantastic and much needed. There is also a flexibility in terms of our ability to move some of the stuff so we can have activations and activities with Streetfest and that."
He adds the light standards will also be replaced and there will be some improvements for the local greenery.
"Those will be new and updated and we'll also have some string lights which will be nice. There will be some trees with some pretty high tech planting. The way that they were planted before, the trees couldn't really grow well because of the concrete and what not, but there is some new technology that's come along that we're happy to incorporate."
The work should take about 13 weeks to complete, so Kumala-Thomas is looking forward to seeing all of the improvements in June.
Dundas Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between Victoria Street and Museum Square, but pedestrians will still be able to access the businesses in the area.
