Services could be suspended if agreement isn't made by 6:00 p.m. today.
The strike deadline for Via Rail and the union representing 2,400 of its employees has been extended.
On Friday, Unifor issued a 72 hour strike notice to the national rail carrier, indicating workers were prepared to hit the picket lines if a new contract couldn't be negotiated by 12:01 AM today.
Last night, the Union extended the strike deadline to 4:00 p.m..
This afternoon, the strike deadline was pushed back again until 6:00 p.m., then 8:00 p.m.
The union says talks between the two parties continue.
A strike would see maintenance workers, on-board service personnel, chefs, customer service and sales staff walk off the job, forcing Via to pause services across Canada.
