Oxford County's high school students will pack Southwood Arena this Thursday in order to show their school spirit and support United Way Oxford.
OXFORD - The United Way Student Stair Climb is back at Southwood Arena after a two-year hiatus.
The event will take place this week on Thursday November 3rd and it is all about raising money for a great cause. It involves school spirit and some friendly competition between the local area high schools.
Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute has raised the most money, winning every year but one, with over $142,000 raised since the Stair Climb's inception almost two decades ago.
For 2022, Julie Rutherford from United Way Oxford explains what students need to know to get involved.
"They need a minimum $20 pledge form. You can bring in more than that, but it's a minimum of $20 to attend and you can show up on the day just wearing your school spirit colours. It's going to be a lot of fun."
Meridian Credit Union is one of the sponsors of this year's Stair Climb and confirms that they have donated what will be the top prize, however, it will stay a secret for now. The top school will also receive a trophy that they will get to keep for the year.
Rutherford also wanted to remind those who can't attend that they can still get involved.
"All the funds do stay 100 percent local in Oxford County and support the programs and agencies throughout Oxford so if you can't be there at Stair Climb, please reach out and sponsor a student."
Julie Rutherford and Brandie Burnett joined Dan and Marcie in the Heart FM studio on Thursday October 27th and you can listen to the full interview below.
