A Warning Preparedness Meteorologist for Environment Canada gives us his predictions for the summer following a erratic spring
WOODSTOCK - As spring 2015 sets to wind down to welcome in summer, residents of the Friendly City have witnessed a mix bag when it comes to weather.
After one of the harshest winters in recent history that saw a green Christmas and a white Easter, many are enjoying the warmth and sun. Warning Preparedness Meteorologist for Environment Canada Geoff Coulson give his predictions for the June forecast: "It looks like June will be a little warmer than normal and that actually follows a trend that we've had during the month of May. Now we have definitely had some cool days during the month of May but we have also had a number of days that have been much warmer than normal. But again a real combination of some warm days and some chilly ones."
Summer may be right around the corner but Jack Frost isn't ready for winter to be done after the region was covered in a layer of frost on Saturday morning.
As the temperature in May continues to do what could be called a roller coaster effect by rising and falling drastically Coulson predicts winter 2015-2016 just may be a little calmer. "It has been two winters where we did see colder than normal temperatures - some areas getting a lot more snow than usual. In looking ahead though for the coming winter there is talk about a stronger El Nino event building into the coming winter, and that may in fact lead to a somewhat more normal winter or even more of a little mild winter."
It is less than a month to go until the first day of summer and Coulson breaks down how much rain the area has seen compared to the normal amount for this time of year. "It has been a dry month of May; our site only picked up about 10mm so far this month. Our normal rainfall for May should be closer to 77mm. There is some showers and thunderstorms in the forecast some areas may get more than others and then after that it is just a slight chance of showers over the weekend and that's about it."
