Parents are reminded to keep the lines of communication open as students start a new chapter in their lives.
A new chapter is about to start for many young people in Oxford - high school.
As a new crop of freshmen traipse through the doors, they are encouraged to come with a positive attitude and get a good night's rest beforehand.
Some students might be feeling a little anxious, but Principal of College Ave Secondary School Tiffany Birtch says those feelings are perfectly normal.
"It is a major thing for all students whether they're new to the school or just returning to the school. So recognize that those fears are normal and there are people there to support them."
Parents are also encouraged to check in with their kids not just on the first day, but all year long.
"How did the day go? Who did you meet? Who are your teachers? Asking those basic questions and getting feedback from them beyond, 'It was a good day,' or 'Everything's okay.' Ask for a little more detail," Birtch says.
Many school in Oxford will be offering some special programs during those first few weeks to help relieve some of the tension.
