TAVISTOCK - The fifth positive mosquito trap for West Nile has been confirmed.
Southwestern Public Health says today (Monday, September 11th) the trap in Tavistock has caught an insect with the virus.
Tavistock's trap is the fourth from Oxford County, and the other three in Oxford County include Tillsonburg on Wednesday, August 9th, Woodstock on Monday, August 14th, Drumbo on Tuesday, September 5th.
SWPH reminds people to protect themselves from mosquito bites by using bug spray when outdoors, wearing long sleeve shirts or jackets and long pants, make sure clothing is light in colour wherever possible, and to clean up mosquito breeding grounds.
Tips to tidy up breeding grounds consist of preventing outside water from standing for more than a week, remove or drain standing water from bird baths, flower pots, barrels, cans, pool covers, and clogged drains. Also, keep bushes and shrubs clear of overgrowth, and properly maintain fish ponds to prevent or control mosquitoes.
