Southwestern Public Health has received it's first shipment of COVID-19, RSV and flu shots ahead of respiratory virus season.
SWPH - Southwestern Public Health is encouraging everyone to get vaccinated to protect themselves during respiratory virus season.
Dr. Joyce Lock, the Acting Medical Officer of Health, says COVID-19 is already circulating in the community and we can expect RSV and influenza to follow.
Flu shots for the general public will begin on October 28th, but Dr. Lock is encouraging high-risk individuals to get it sooner through a healthcare provider or a pharmacy. This includes people over 65, kids between the ages of six months and four years old, and people working in long-term care homes, retirement homes and other congregate settings.
The health unit is also recommending that you stay home if you feel sick, practice good hand hygiene, cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your sleeve, and try to optimize the indoor ventilation and air quality in your home.
It says you should also wear a mask in indoor public settings if you're at high risk of illness or if you are recovering from a recent illness.
