They say to go for a test at an assessment centre if you have been exposed to a confirmed case of the virus directed by public health or the COVID-19 Alert App. Also, to not go to a pharmacy if you have symptoms of the virus.

OXFORD COUNTY - Southwestern Public Health says there are some things to consider when getting tested either at an assessment centre or a pharmacy.

Since the end of September, new guidelines for COVID-19 testing were released by the provincial government. Testing was expanded to certain pharmacies across the province, on top of assessment centres.

They say to go for a test at an assessment centre if you have been exposed to a confirmed case of the virus directed by public health or the COVID-19 Alert App, or are a part of an outbreak investigation directed by public health.

They add to go to an assessment centre if you are experiencing the following:

- Showing symptoms of COVID-19.
- You belong to a specific group outlined by the Chief Medical Officer of Health.
- You're eligible for testing as part of a targeted testing initiative directed by the Ministry of Health or Ministry of long-Term Care.

Also, they say pharmacies are eligible for testing as part of a targeted testing initiative directed by the Ministry of Health or Ministry of Long-Term Care. SWPH says residents, workers or visitors of long-term care homes are included in this initiative, along with farm workers.

Others who are part of the targeted testing initiative would also include:

- Residents or workers in homeless shelters or other congregate settings.
- International students who have passed their 14-day quarantine period.
- Indigenous communities.

The health unit says to not go to a pharmacy if you have symptoms of COVID-19.
