SWPH Releases Masking Recommendations

Southwestern Public Health says you should mask up whenever you're visiting a clinical setting, a school-based vaccination clinic, or a family with young children.

SWPH - Masks are no longer mandatory in most settings across the province, but Southwestern Public Health has released a list of spaces where you should still mask up.

It recommends wearing a mask if you are visiting clinical settings. This includes hospitals, dentist offices and doctors appointments. The Health Unit is also stressing the importance of masking up in vaccination clinics, especially the ones that are school based.

Health officials says you should wear a mask if you're visiting a family with young children as well.

Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ninh Tran says you need to think about the people around you when you make the decision to mask up.

"Consider whether there is COVID-19 or other infectious diseases in the community, if you will be in a crowded setting, or if you will be around people who are at a higher risk of complications from an illness. These are situations to consider masking-up to help keep each other healthy."

Masks remain mandatory in long-term care and retirement homes.

Several hospitals in the area have also decided to enforce their own mask mandates. This includes the Woodstock Hospital, Alexandra Hospital, Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph's Healthcare London, and St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.
