The donations of cash and menstrual hygiene products will help address period poverty in our community.
OXFORD COUNTY - Tampon Tuesday is upon us here in Oxford County.
The Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Woodstock, Tillsonburg, Ingersoll, and Norwich have been collecting donations of menstrual hygiene products for a few weeks now to address period poverty.
Donations will also be accepted at the Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse restaurant locations in Woodstock and Tillsonburg from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. this evening. Amanda Kreiger, the Resource Development Manager for United Way Oxford, says the events at Kelsey's are a great way to educate the public on the issue of period poverty.
"This is our 7th year, and it's grown every year. So, our Women's United Community really gets behind it. The conversations that are happening, we need to talk about these things. We need to talk about period poverty and the choices that people who are living in poverty face every month. The conversations that happen at Kelsey's are amazing."
Cash will also be accepted and Kreiger adds all of the donations will benefit local organizations in hopes of addressing period poverty in our community.
"We get those (the donations) out to the communities in which they're raised as well. So it's local because it's in Oxford County, but also if you donate in Ingersoll it stays in Ingersoll, if you donate in Norwich it stays in Norwich, etc. We keep them in those communities for those food banks and programs, but throughout the year those products run out."
Almost 1,500 products were donated during last year's Tampon Tuesday campaign.
