Over 300 elementary school teachers took to the streets of downtown Woodstock for a one-day strike. The teachers are protesting against Bill 115, that imposes a contract on all education workers. Union Steward and Teacher at Springbank Public School, Kevin Derosiers says all workers should be concerned. "It's not about the salary. We agree 0% works for us. It is about taking our collective rights away from us. Bill 115, if read, is scary. The government through regulation can dictate what we get in the way of a contract. It's unprecedented. Scary stuff." Derosiers says if the government can do it, any employer can. The teachers say they were also encouraged by the response from the public today, as the teachers received honks from passing motorists, and some even stopped to drop off coffee and doughnuts. The picket only lasted the morning, starting at 8:30, and by Noon, what was a huge crowd through the morning, was completely gone.
