Residents of Thamesford will be carrying on an almost 50 year tradition of fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society.
THAMESFORD - There's still time to sign up for the Great Ride and Stride Fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Walkers, runners, cyclists, and rollerbladers are welcome to participate on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. starting at the St John's Anglican Church. Thamesford Lions member Ron Pearn tells Heart FM this really has become a great tradition in Thamesford.
"[The Ride and Stride] Started here in Thamesford 49 years ago and it kind of spread across South Western Ontario. Our Lions Club has sponsored it since day one and we also have some other great sponsors who help out. Maple Leaf has donated food, the BBQ, and a cycling company out of London has donated a bike for us to give away to a kid."
Pearn says you can walk, run, cycle, or rollerblade the route this year.
"It's 10 km out to the turn around point and then you another 10 km back, so the riders will ride 20 km, they don't have to go the whole distance but whatever they can."
The Great Ride and Stride fundraisers have raised over $1.5 million for the Canadian Cancer Society since they first began in 1969.
