THAMESFORD - The Thamesford Lions Club has reached a special milestone.

This past Saturday, the Thamesford Lions Club celebrated their 65th Charter Night. Member, Jack Broadfoot, has been a member for over 50 years and says it was a great year.

"We've had a very successful sixty-five years. We have raised over $1,000,000, which we give back to lands, functions, all our sports, local organizations, Secura House, and Ingersoll Hospital."

$10,000 was donated to the Alexandra Hospital Foundation’s "OneChart = One Million: Charting the Future" campaign, $5,000 was given to VON Sakura House, and $50,000 was put towards the new multi-use court system. Broadfoot adds details on the types of fundraisers held for the Club.

"We're doing Catch the Ace on May the 17th. For 45 years, we've held a trout brunch on the Sunday from 11 till 1.30. We worked the outdoor farm show food booth in September."

Broadfoot adds they also went around Thamesford collecting scrap metal this month, and were able to raise money and keep that material from going to a landfill. The Thamesford Lions Club currently has 69 members and continues to ensure its deep roots remain in the community.
