Innerkip will be hosting the U16 Boys Canadian Fastpitch Championship this week.
INNERKIP - Nine of the Canada's best boys baseball teams will be gathering in Innerkip this week; for the U16 Boys Canadian Fastpitch Championships.
Four Ontario teams will be up against teams from Saskatchewan, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
Committee Chairman Kyle Smith says we will have some local representation.
"Innerkip U16 boys, the Junior Eagles, are the host team so they will be playing all week. We have been lucky enough that Tavistock was able to qualify as well for the Canadian championships. So we've got two local teams but with the host team Innerkip; it doesn't get any more local than that."
The tournament will kick off tomorrow in Innerkip Park. The action will always get underway just after 9 a.m. each morning. The last game of the day will also begin at 8:30 p.m. each evening.
Everything will wrap up on Sunday with the gold medal game.
Smith says this four day event has been years in the making.
"Two years ago we put bid package together and sent it to Softball Canada, the national governing body of softball in Canada. Lucky enough we were selected by the selection panel."
Week passes cost $50 each. Day passes are $15 but that price does drop to $5 if it's after 5 p.m. Kids under 12 will be able to watch for free.
