The Salvation Army had to bring in a bigger van to collect all of the donated items from the Village of Innerkip on Saturday. The Innerkip and District Lions Club picked up the items using their parade train.

INNERKIP - It was all smiles in the Village of Innerkip on Saturday as the local Lions Club collected donations for the Salvation Army.

Residents left out their goodies at the driveway and the Lions Train came around to pick them up with their train. Secretary for the Innerkip and District Lions Club Tracey Vanderheide says it was a great day.

"We actually collected more food than we expected, it was a great day and the community response was amazing, it took us a little bit longer than we thought but it was a great day."

They estimate that they collected nearly 500 pounds of food. Vanderheide says the Salvation Army was really impressed.

"They sent a little mini van originally to pick it up and I said, no that is not going to be enough, so they had to send out the big Salvation Army van to come get it, so that was good news and they were more than excited to come and pick it up."

Vanderheide says the residents had a blast watching the train roll through town.

"Everyone was smiling and waving, we had a few people drive around to come find us because they thought they had missed the train. We were chased down by a few vehicles, people with boxes of food."

Vanderheide says they want to give a huge thank you to the community of Innerkip for their amazing response.
