Cinderella will make its Theatre Woodstock debut this Friday.
WOODSTOCK - You won't want to wait until the stroke of midnight to get tickets for the latest production at Theatre Woodstock.
Cinderella will make its debut on Friday February 16th, with nine shows scheduled until Sunday February 25th. There will be five evening performances and four matinees.
Director Emil Wijnker says it will be Rogers and Hammerstein's Broadway version of the classic tale, so don't expect it to be like the Disney movie.
"No bibbidi bobbidi boo here! It's very Rogers and Hammerstein so if you've seen the Sound of Music and you love the Sound of Music, it's the same types of melodies and everything. It's a really lovely show."
Wijnker adds a cast of 25 adults will bring the classic fairytale to life on stage.
"It's a great sight, it really is with everyone in their gowns in the ballroom scene and everything. Our stage is just absolutely full of colour and personality. It's a big cast for sure."
Shannon Wijnker, the Musical Director for the show, says the cast is a mix of new performers and veterans.
"So many people just came out, gave it a try, they jumped in with two feet and they're having so much fun! It's amazing to see the progression of these people going from 'I don't know what I'm doing' to 'okay can you give me some advice, and help me out?' They're just killing it on stage, it's amazing! A lot of our cast members are so funny and personable, you're just going to love the characters on stage."
Stephanie MacDonald is one of the new performers and she will be playing the role of Madame, Cinderella's evil stepmother. Her favourite part of the show is a musical number.
"My favourite part is the song, it's A Lovely Night. Me, my daughters and step-daughter get to sing together and dance. It is such a wonderful song."
MacDonald is glad she decided to give acting a try.
"If it's something you have never done before, take a chance and try it out. Everyone has been so supportive, all of the veterans have come to the newbies and given us help, told us about theatre traditions and just been really kind and encouraging. It's been nothing but a positive experience so I would encourage people to try it out."
There's only a handful of tickets for Cinderella left and they can be purchased on the Theatre Woodstock website for $25 each.
Emil Wijnker, Shannon Wijnker, and Stephanie MacDonald stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Tuesday February 13th. You can listen to the full interview below:
