The CRA is taking a precautionary measure to lock over 800,000 taxpayers from their online accounts after concerns that usernames and passwords may have been obtained by third parties.
CANADA - The Canada Revenue Agency will lock more than 800,000 taxpayers of their online accounts.
They are investigating the possibility that some usernames and passwords may have been obtained by third parties. A similar action was taken in February and the CRA says this is a precautionary measure.
It's possible the data breaches happened because of email phishing scams.
The timing for this is tough, as Canadians are in the middle of a bizarre tax season where many have been working from home or collecting CERB.
If you are getting locked out of your CRA account, you will get an email from the CRA My Account for more instructions. If you have not signed up for the CRA email alerts, then your instructions will come in the mail.
