Briefs include the Town of Tillsonburg asking the Prime Minister to roll back the carbon tax, the CAO and Mayor having more power during the pandemic and Yield signs will soon become Stop signs.
TILLSONBURG - The Town of Tillsonburg is asking the Prime Minister to roll back the carbon tax that came into effect April 1st.
The motion, which was supported by Town Council points to the fiscal crisis facing everyone impacted by the tax, so it should return to previous levels. The motion also asked that there would be a call for support from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and its 444 members.
Tillsonburg Town Council defeated a motion last night that would have given the Mayor and CAO more power during this pandemic. If approved, the Mayor would have been able to amend any municipal bylaw or change policy without Council’s permission and the CAO would have been allowed cancel any program or service provided by the town. The motion was defeated unanimously by Town Council.
Rolling stops are about to become a thing of the past in the Town of Tillsonburg. The triangular yield signs are all coming down to be replaced by stop signs. The work will be done by public works. There was no opposition from any of the residents.
