The door has been opened for a methadone clinic to set up shop in Tillsonburg.
Tillsonburg now has an official plan should a methadone clinic want to set up show in their town.
County Council approved Wednesday night an amendment to the County's official plan to implement policies for regulating the location of methadone clinics and dispensaries in the Town of Tillsonburg.
Mayor John Lessif says this was about locating the service in an area that didn't intimidate the public. "This is a service that is needed in communities and we just wanted to make sure that if there is a methadone clinic that does come to Tillsonburg, that they're received by the residents as a service provider and not something that hey need to be afraid of."
Lessif says a lot of public consultation went into the planning for a methadone clinic and he says it was never a controversial topic in Tillsonburg.
While several areas were identified as acceptable in the Town, there will not be a methadone clinic allowed to set up on Broadway Street.
