The Town of Tillsonburg will be looking to attract more investments as a member of the Southwestern Ontario Marketing Alliance.
TILLSONBURG - The Town of Tillsonburg has decided to rejoin the Southwestern Ontario Marketing Alliance or SOMA after a two year hiatus.
Tillsonburg Town council has agreed to pay the $20,000 membership fee to get back into one of the longest established regional marketing organizations in Ontario. The town decided to get back into SOMA after the organization made some changes to better meet the needs of their clients. Development Commissioner Cephas Panschow tells Heart FM what SOMA can do for Tillsonburg.
"Well essentially SOMA is a cost sharing mechanism where we throw our dollars if you will into a joint pool of funds, to be able to attend trade shows, mostly in the US but occasionally in Europe and Japan and the key part in SOMA is we don't always have to attend these shows but we do benefit from the leads generated."
Panschow says it is important for the Town to get out to the trade shows to help them attract investments and get their name out. Some of the other local members of SOMA include Aylmer, Ingersoll, Stratford, St. Thomas, Tillsonburg and Woodstock. Panschow explains why it is beneficial for them to attend these trade shows.
"Certainly attracting investment isn't easy, but one thing we can do is get our name out, and the Southwestern Marketing Alliance is a well known brand in the investment community, so when we go to shows, people know who we are and then when your out there of course your meeting with companies and the best way to find an investment is meeting with companies at trade shows and through number of other networking events."
