Ceremony to be held for first time in two years

Several thousand people are expected to attend the ceremony at the American Cemetery overlooking Omaha Beach in Normandy, France.

The battle liberated Northern France and became a turning point in the war against Nazi Germany.

Britain, the United States and Canada sent more than 160,000 Allied troops in more than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft the day of the initial landing, 4,414 Allied soldiers lost their lives on the first day of the invasion.
