Tourism Oxford set to work on Culinary Strategy and Cycling Tourism
WOODSTOCK - Tourism Oxford now knows what they will spend the $100,000 increase to their operating budget on.
Back in December, County Council approved the budget increase on the grounds the money couldn't be spent until a plan was presented and approved by council.
Tourism Specialist for the County, Meredith Maywood says some of the money will be going toward a Culinary Strategy.
"To help develop Culinary Tourism in Oxford County. We've got a great resource here available and what we want to do is strengthen that moving forward."
Maywood says they will also be taking a closer look at Cycling Tourism.
"We've already held a session earlier this year on welcoming cycling tourists but what we are going to do now is narrow down our focus on what our routes are and what is the best market to go after for it."
She says they will be hiring for a temporary position in the near future.
"They are going to be helping in development in the area of web content, also integration of websites and content on those websites and then also we are looking at doing work in our social media area as well and then reaching out to our local residents so they are aware of the attractions we have here in Oxford."
Maywood says it's still early to be talking about the details of the position which has not yet been posted to job boards.
