It will also act as a hub for the Thamesford and Zorra community.
TOWNSHIP OF ZORRA - Zorra Township broke ground today on site for their new Municipal and Child Care Centre.
The 19,250 square foot facility will become home to a new municiple office and an 88-space daycare center.
Mayor Marcus Ryan says the need for child care in Zorra is important for council to address and change.
"[The child care centre] will support a service that is desperately needed to support economic development. One of the biggest issues in economic development is labor workforce shortage. [We need] a "she-covery", because coming out of COVID one of the main things we need, one of the main components of workforce development is women getting back into the workforce."
It will also act as a hub for the Thamesford and Zorra community.
The new building will be located on Brock Street in Thamesford, taking over the former Maple Leaf Facility.
Ryan says that town council has been preparing for the new build for two years.
"We wanted to make sure we did it right, not just throw up 4-walls and a roof. We wanted to think about what services the municipality really needed."
The project is expected to finish in 2024.
