Via Rail is going to start running trains on Thursday between Quebec City, Montreal and Ottawa, however our lines are still shut down.
ONTARIO - Via Rail announced today they will be resuming service in some parts of the country on Thursday.
Last week they cancelled all of their trains nationwide due to ongoing blockades. Starting on Thursday, trains will run between Quebec City, Montreal and Ottawa after getting permission from C-N Rail.
Almost all other Via Rail services, including the one in Woodstock remain cancelled. They do have one train still running from northern Ontario to Churchill, Manitoba.
The decision to halt the trains comes as the rail blockades continue. Protesters are against the Coastal GasLink pipeline project and showing solidarity with the Wet'suwet'en hereditary chiefs.
The blockades are starting to have impacts in Southwestern Ontario, including Oxford County. Concerns have been raised about dwindling propane supplies in rural areas. Many people who live in the country rely on propane to heat their homes and barns.
