OXFORD COUNTY - The County of Oxford is asking everyone to help keep the waste to a minimum this holiday season.
They recommend choosing products with less packaging to reduce the amount of material sent to the landfill. Every year, the holiday season has a significant impact on the environment with the amount of waste that's produced. You can help limit this by choosing packaging and gift wrap options that can be recycled.
Follow these simple steps for quick and simple recycling this holiday season:
- Remove all tape, plastic film, twist ties and other objects before recycling cardboard packaging.
- Break down and flatten all cardboard boxes, with bundles no larger than 75 x 75 x 20 centimetres.
- Wrapping paper can be recycled, with the exception of foil-based wrapping paper.
- Remove all ribbons and bows. Save and reuse for next year where possible.
Bulky Styrofoam from packaging often found in larger gifts can now be dropped off at the Oxford County Waste Management Facility, Tillsonburg Transfer Station and Woodstock Enviro Depot.
Oxford County residents can also find information about the holiday collection schedule, disposing of real Christmas tree's and holiday closures online using the wasteline web site or app.
