It looks like the work to rule campaign at local high schools in the Thames Valley District School Board is coming to an end as a tentative labour deal has been reached.
The TVDSB and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation District 11 announced the deal on Tuesday. Details have not been released at this time and the deal was reached early Saturday morning after two days of intense bargaining. Teachers, continuing education teachers and occasional teachers are expected to vote on the agreement following a general membership meeting next week.
District 11 Teachers’ Bargaining Unit President Blair Middleton says "I am very pleased that the bargaining team reached a tentative deal with the board. The new two-tiered bargaining process led to a long delay in getting to a local agreement, but the final outcome is a beneficial deal that I am proud to recommend to our members."
A central agreement was reached at the provincial level in late August.
Senior Administration will recommend the Board of Trustees endorse the local agreement at their next regular meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 24, said Jeff Pratt, TVDSB Associate Director, Organizational Support Services.
"Negotiators on both sides worked very hard to reach an agreement and should be commended for their efforts." High School teachers had withdrawing from things like parent teacher nights and filling out marks on report cards as a protest to the fact that they hadn't reached a labour agreement. The Work to Rule will end if the teachers do in fact vote in favour of the deal.
