The Oxford Children's Water Festival celebrates a decade as students flood to Pittock Conservation Area to get some water wisdom.
WOODSTOCK - Pittock Conservation Area will be flooded with students thirsty for knowledge about water.
The Oxford Children's Water Festival is returning to Woodstock and Water Festival Coordinator Linda Smith says it's going to be bigger than ever as they celebrate a decade."We're celebrating the 10th festival by creating 10 new stations. One of them is 'Stream of Dreams' where the students will be learning about where the water goes; from their street down the storm drain and how it's not cleaned before it goes to the creek. And how eventually their drinking water comes from the creek and the lakes."
The festival rotates between London, Woodstock, and St. Thomas. This year Woodstock will be hosting."The water festival is an opportunity for students in the Thames Valley School Board to come out to Pittock Conservation Area to learn about water in their communities and their lives. It's important because we're trying to encourage behaviour change and encourage students to conserve water but also to learn about where their water comes from, how they can take better care of their water, and that kind of thing," Smith says.
900 students from grades 2 - 5 are expected to trickle into the park each day to take part in the activities. The festival begins on May 26th, and runs for four days. Smith says none of it would be possible without help from their volunteers and 14 community sponsors.
Smith says the children really enjoy the activities and she sees teachers return year after year for more water wisdom.
