The U12 Woodstock Junior Navy Vets won the Silver Stick Championship in New Market over the weekend.
WOODSTOCK - The U12 Jr. Navy Vets are the 2023 Silver Stick Champions.
This past weekend, the Vets teams represented by the U10, U12 & U14 divisions traveled to New Market for the annual tournament.
The team was undefeated throughout the round robin. They played against Essex SouthPoint, Stittsville Rams, Michigan Lakeshore Jr. Lumberjacks and Leaside Flames. In semifinals they went on to face off against the St. Thomas Stars with a final score of 7-2.
The finals were against the also undefeated Sarnia Jr. Sting. The final game was well-played by both teams. Woodstock scored the first goal of the game; they ended the period in the lead 2-0. With a strong effort from everyone on the roster, Woodstock was able to close out the game 3-1.
Head Coach Chad Paton gave credit for the win not only to the team but to the players parents as well.
“This past weekend’s Silver Stick win is something these kids will remember for the rest of their lives. Not one player put themselves above anyone else. They know hard work and team play leads to success on and off the ice. A lot of credit can go to the families of these players; they are raising hardworking, coachable kids."
U12 Woodstock Jr. Navy Vets will have a plaque with the names of all team members at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto for the next year.
