This is the campaign kick-off week for United Way Oxford and the theme this year is United in Local Love.
OXFORD COUNTY - United Way Oxford has kicked off it's annual campaign and the theme this year is United in Local Love.
Executive Director Kelly Gilson says they're now accepting funding applications from local organizations, but they must be aligned with one of United Way's priority areas: poverty to possibility, building strong communities and helping kids be all that they can be.
"It's important for the organizations to know the Statement of Interest is now open and the deadline for this first step is October 1st so we really want to get the word out. All of the money we're raising through this campaign is really because we want to make those investments."
Gilson says this is only step one in a lengthy process and they won't be making final funding decisions until February. You can find more information online here.
You can also help out those in need in our community by creating a DIY kit using one of the supply lists posted on United Way Oxford's website. Gilson says they have four different themes for the kits.
"One is a winter warmth kit for people that are living rough, so we can get them out to people who have needs there. Another is a senior support kit. There's also a welcome home kit for people that are just getting housed and starting with nothing."
The fourth kit is a school supply kit and it should include all of the basic supplies every student needs during the school year such as pencils, erasers and a backpack. United Way Oxford will be collecting all DIY kits at it's Woodstock office on Hunter Street on September 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
United Way Oxford is also one of the recipients for the Smile Cookie campaign at Tim Hortons locations in Woodstock and Ingersoll this week.
