Giving Tuesday is a worldwide movement that encourages people to give back to their community.
OXFORD COUNTY - First Black Friday, then Cyber Monday, and now Giving Tuesday.
It's Giving Tuesday today, which is a worldwide movement which encourages people to give back to their community through donations, volunteering, and support.
Here in Oxford County, United Way Oxford is participating in the movement once again. United Way provides financial support to organizations that fall under its three main pillars: From Poverty to Possibility, Building Strong Communities, and Helping Kids Be All That They Can Be.
Resource Development Management Amanda Kreiger says they rely in donations
"Giving Tuesday is meant to offset that consumerism focus and have us looking outwards and towards what we can do for our community as well after having done some of our Christmas shopping."
But United Way Oxford is in need of donations and Kreiger is hoping people will give back to the community in the spirit of the holiday season.
"Giving Tuesday focuses specifically on donations to support charities or just join us on social media and spread the word. If you maybe don't have the resources to donate right now just help us share that it is Giving Tuesday."
Donations can be made online here or at the United Way office on Hunter Street in Woodstock.
