DART Oxford will be hosting an event at the Children's Aid office in Woodstock in hopes of educating the public about racism and some of the unconscious biases we have in our community.
WOODSTOCK - Oxford County's Domestic Assault Resource Team (DART) is going to be hosting a community discussion all about addressing racism and bias in our community.
Joanna Piatkowski, the Manager of Programs and Outreach for Ingamo Homes, says they're going to welcome officials from Unlearn to the Oxford County's Children's Aid office on Peel Street in Woodstock on Tuesday January 24th.
"Unlearn is an organization out of Waterloo. They are a social enterprise with a passion for inspiring critical thinking and educating students in communities. They use thought-provoking designs to challenge people to speak about their unconscious biases, strengthen their equity lens, and advocate for social justice and human rights."
The doors will open at 8:00 a.m. and everything should get started a half-hour later. Piatkowski says it's a four-hour event and lunch is included with the $30 registration fee.
She would like two representatives from every local organization to sign up.
"It is something we all need to be mindful of. Our community is growing and we are becoming a very diverse community so it's a matter of participating in those conversations and seeing how we can do better as a community to make sure everyone feels included."
Those interested in signing up can do so online here before the end of today.
