A bridge on Windham Road has to get shut down at the last minute, after inspectors deemed it unsafe.
VANESSA - Norfolk County Public Works had to completely shut down a bridge on Windham Road 3 due to safety concerns.
The single lane wood deck bridge is located just outside of Vanessa, about 15 minutes east of Otterville.
Public Works General Manager Lee Robinson says the closed it off on November 22nd, after an inspector checked it out.
"It's prematurely deteriorated; we found it the other day. We had to immediately close it because it's not safe for traffic to be travelling on it."
Robinson adds they are hoping to address the issue before winter.
"Staff are aware of the importance of it in the local area and we are working as fast as we possibly can. We've already had contractors out there and we are just waiting to receive the quote to do the emergency work so that we can authorize them to proceed."
County engineers estimate the repair will cost anywhere between $40,000 and $45,000.
Approximately 180 vehicles, including school buses use that bridge on a daily basis and now have to find alternatives routes.
