A 53-year-old Kitchener man has been slapped with 8-charges in connection with a crash that killed a 17-month-old girl. The baby was a passenger in a Volkswagen Jetta that broke down on Highway 7/8 in Kitchener. The car was rear-ended by a cube van being driven by 53-year-old Hugh Brake. (Police photo from crash scene on right) Brake was arrested at the scene and held in custody overnight. He's been charged with 8 offences: 1) Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle - Causing Death 2) Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle - Causing Bodily Harm 3) Impaired Driving Causing Death 4) Over 80mgs Causing Death 5) Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm 6) Over 80mgs Causing Bodily Harm 7) Obstruct Justice 8) Possession Schedule ll Cannabis - Marihuana under 30 grams He'll have a bail hearing later today. As for the family that was hit, the 36-year-old mother of the infant remains in a Hamilton hospital in critical condition. The 38-year-old father received minor injuries. Their identities have not been released, but were said to be from Stratford. Police are continuing to investigate and are trying to locate a nurse who assisted with the injuries at the scene last night.
