Southwestern Public Health has confirmed it's first case of the B1351 variant that was first discovered in South Africa and over 90,000 residents have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
OXFORD/ELGIN/ST.THOMAS - Variants of concern continue to be a concern in the Southwestern Public Health region.
Currently 80 percent of the active cases in the region are variants of concern. This week, the Health Unit also confirmed the first case of the B1351, also known as variant first identified in South Africa.
Over 90,000 residents have been given at least 1 dose of the vaccine and this is about 42 percent of the total population. Bookings have been opened to adults 18 plus.
With over 43,000 adults now eligible, you may experience delays in the bookings. Everyone is asked to be patient and polite with staff when booking your COVID-19 vaccines. They will have enough for everyone.
Locally the vaccine supply has increased substantially, and the Health Unit will start getting enough doses for 10,000 vaccines a week.
They will have pop up clinics in Tavistock, Port Burwell and Dutton to help expand the reach.
