A local woman from Woodstock has been collecting and donating supplies to the less fortunate during the pandemic.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock is known as the Friendly City for a reason and a group of volunteers are showing us why.
Samantha Keizer has been collecting food donations, clothing, diapers and other essential supplies and delivering them to the less fortunate in the City. She started out by doing free online games for people at home in isolation and then she started collecting donations for food and clothing. Keiser got some help from Karen van de Vrede-Cutajar, who was behind the Operation Christmas Child campaign in Oxford County last year.
Keizer says they had to stop doing the deliveries last year because of health reasons. She has now found another volunteer to help out and they have started back up again. Keizer says right now they're looking for more donations from the community.
"So now we are collecting donations of food, clothing, winter items, formula diapers and other essentials for people in need.
Since they started doing this, they have helped a lot of people in Woodstock and Oxford County.
"The first run we able to help 23 families and then what we had over, we actually took to Hamilton and gave to people on the street. We had to stop for a bit, but recently we have just started again and we have helped about 20 families so far."
Right now they are accepting donations to make even more deliveries. Keizer is doing the donations by appointment only as a COVID-19 safety precaution. You can reach out to her on Facebook or give her a call at 289-698-4353 to set up a time to donate to the cause.
