Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County will be one of several local non-profit organizations that will be at the volunteer recruitment fair at Goff Hall this Saturday.
WOODSTOCK - Volunteers are needed for lots of non-profit agencies across Oxford including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County.
Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator Erica Hughes would like to recruit 50 new mentors this month in honour of Big Brothers Big Sisters Month. She says this would go a long way in addressing their growing waitlist.
"We have about 160 youth on our waitlist right now and we are working away to try and chip that down."
She has recruited about seven new mentors so far this month, so she has decided to join forces with Robyn Owen, the Volunteer Specialist for Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners.
Hughes says they have organized a volunteer fair, which will takeover Goff Hall this Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
"We created this volunteer recruitment fair that is focusing on local not-for-profit organizations, public-facing organizations, and other volunteer opportunities you can reach out to within Oxford County!"
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County will also be hosting three open houses on Monday September 18th. One will be at their Woodstock office (787a Dundas Street), one will be at their Ingersoll office (58 Thames Street South), and the third will be at the Indigo Lounge in Tillsonburg.
You can find more information about Big Brothers Big Sisters and the different youth mentorship programs they offer online here.
Hughes stopped by the Heart FM studio with Nicole Killaire, the Fund Development Manager for BBBS Oxford, to chat with Dan and Marcie on Wednesday September 13th. You can listen to the full interview below:
