WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Art Gallery and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada are teaming up for a safe and fun Family Day event this year.

Toyota is providing the Art Gallery with enough funds to create 300 art kit grab bags. Director/Curator Mary Reid says normally the Art Gallery hosts a big event on Family Day.

"Normally we run a kids movie through Gallery Cinemas and then we would have about 400 students and kids come into the Gallery and take part in various activities, unfortunately because of COVID-19 we can't do that this year. So I am just thrilled that Toyota wanted to pick up the baton and we put everything that you need to be busy on Family Day into a little grab bag and we will put instructions into the bags and on our web site."

Education Coordinator Deanna Logan says each bag is jampacked with supplies including sketchbooks, paper, pencils, crayons, and other fun craft materials, along with media such as painting or clay sculpture.

"No two bags are alike, so there are endless possibilities for children and their caregivers to create something unique. There will also be free resources on our website that can be used for inspiration."

Reid says they will hand out the grab bags on a first come, first serve basis outside the Art Galley at the main entrance today, Friday February 12th  from 11 am to 1 pm. If they still have some grab bags left, they will hand them out again on Saturday February 13th at 10:00 am, again in front of the Art Gallery on Dundas Street at the main entrance. People are reminded to stay safe, wear a mask and physically distance.
