The UTRCA says local water levels should rise this afternoon due to the rain and the warmer temperatures melting the snow.
UTRCA - The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is reminding everyone to stay away from the local bodies of water today.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Oxford and Brant, with 15 to 25 milimetres of rain and wind gusts between 70 and 90 kilometres per hour in the forecast for today. We're also in for a daytime high of 11 and an overnight low of plus 1.
The UTRCA says local water levels should rise this afternoon not only because of the rain but also due to the warmer temperatures melting some of the snow. This means the water will be very cold and fast-moving. The banks along the rivers and creeks will also be very slippery, making it easy to fall in.
The conservation authority is also reminding everyone to stay off the ice-covered bodies of water because they will be weak and unstable. The Woodstock Fire Department also warned everyone to stay off the ice earlier this week.
