Southwestern Public Health is currently in the Orange Tier and our local Medical Officer of Health explains what to look for to see if we will be moving up or down a tier in the coming weeks or days.
OXFORD/ELGIN COUNTY - The Province is expected to announce more regions that will move into new restrictions on Friday.
Southwestern Public Health is currently in the orange tier, just 2 below a lockdown. Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock explains what to watch for in terms of moving up or down a level.
"It is based on our case count mostly, so that is the number of cases per 100,000 and I think people just need to keep an eye on our dashboard to see if we are getting more cases. That is the key indicator, the province does look into other factors as well, they look at things like the number of tests that are coming back positive, the number of outbreaks we have at long term care homes, workplaces and schools and they look at the number of hospital beds that are filled with COVID patients, but really the biggest influence is the number daily cases we have."
Dr. Lock says everyone can work together and do our part to keep us from moving into the red zone.
"Last week, although we had cases, they were still low enough to worry about not going into a red, we will have to see how this week unfolds. Meanwhile I ask everybody to buckle down and stay home when your sick. That is so important to stay home when you are sick, so that you don't accidentally spread the infection to somebody else and make our numbers worse. So no matter how mild your symptoms, even if you think this is something really minimal, stay home until you know you are healthy."
