It's not the news high school athletes want to hear. Their sports are being put on the shelf, until at least after the Christmas break. With high school teachers rejecting a deal with Thames Valley School Board last night, and the threat of escalating job action looming, sports are being "paused" - in the words of the board. ?We recognize the importance of extra-curricular activities to students and families and we regret that current labour conditions will likely have an impact on sports, concerts and other activities,? says Laura Elliott, Executive Superintendent of Program Services, in a press release. ?With regard to secondary sports, we will push the pause button on the season on Monday (December 10) until the start of winter holidays (December 21),? adds Elliott. The decision affects all TVRA sports. As for other extra-curricular activities, the board suggests parents contact their individual schools to find out what activities are being impacted.
